Accessibility

FootShop.cc is meant to be usable by everyone — including people who rely on screen readers, keyboards, magnification, or other assistive technology. Many of our readers are seniors, and this commitment is not decorative: it shapes how the site is built.

The standard we build to

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, and we have adopted several WCAG 2.2 additions ahead of requirement: minimum target sizes for buttons and links, keeping focused elements visible below the sticky header, and honoring your system’s reduced-motion preference.

What that looks like here

Semantic headings and landmarks on every page. Full keyboard operability with a visible focus indicator and a skip-to-content link. A color palette checked against WCAG contrast ratios. Labeled forms with live status messages. Correct language markup on every English and Spanish page, so screen readers pronounce both properly. And behind the round accessibility figure in the header, a panel of display options built by us, not a third party: quick profiles (low vision, dyslexia-friendly, motor), text size, line height and letter spacing, high-contrast and dark modes, grayscale, a readable font, highlighted links, a reading guide, stopped animations, and a big cursor. Those are display preferences saved on your device; they change presentation only.

Where we stand

We assess the site as partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 AA: the pages we control are built and tested to the standard, and we review them with automated and manual checks after significant changes. One known limitation is outside our control: product links lead to retailer websites such as Amazon, whose accessibility we cannot guarantee. We deliberately do not use an automated "accessibility overlay" widget — the evidence is that overlays do not achieve conformance and can interfere with assistive technology; we fix the site itself instead.
